I am all about fast and light. The more I think about it, the more I believe I want a small, relatively flat backpack and a chest pack. I want something that is as unobtrusive as possible– something I can duck under limbs and vines without catching. I also think the chest pack addition is great for quick access to often-used essentials. I wouldn’t carry more than a water bottle and tarp/solar blanket combo in the backpack and would keep my fire kit/water filtration/compass/gps up front.

I’m a hunter and generally go all day without returning to my vehicle and cover a lot of ground throughout the day. Hence, I want weight savings. I don’t care one way or the other about looking tactical.
