KeymasterOK these are for my wife. (I have prescription sunglasses that get replaced every couple years with my prescription)
Roughly 7 years ago I bought her a pair of Oakley Half Jacket XLJ polarized glasses. She loves them. by 2012, after five years of use, they were pretty worn and I got replacement lenses and rubber pieces. (Polarized black iridium is her flavor of lenses) Well, it is less than two years on the genuine Oakley replacement Lenses and they are pretty scratched up. I don’t think her care of the glasses has changed, yet the new lenses lasted less than 2 years instead of the five with the originals.
It looks like Oakley has stopped making most lenses for these glasses. (Only three colors are available directly from Oakley, not the ones she wants…they have a Half Jacket 2.0 glasses now.) Judging from the Amazon reviews for lenses from other companies for these glasses, fit and durability are somewhat spotty.
So I need suggestions. Has Oakley gone down in quality? I’d like to get away with just lenses since the glasses are fine, but it looks like I can only get other brands, any good experiences? If we decide to go with totally new glasses any suggestions? I liked the idea of being able to easily replace the lenses, but that is not working out as well in practice as it was in theory.
This isn’t the first time I have bought into expensive items with the belief that they would be supported long term and felt let down. I hate the idea, but with about $250-300 invested in her sunglasses over the last seven years, we could have just got a halfway decent $30 dollar pair every year and come out ahead, alot ahead if she got more than a years use out of a pair of cheapies.
