Ever since I saw Baja’s and Aloha’s polished Waves over at MT.O forum I’ve been toying with an idea to try it on mine but didn’t have a spare one to play with.

Just recently I acquired another Wave as part of a trade and decided the time was right, so to speak :)

I decided to go a little further and polish the bottom tools too, as my goal was to get it close in finish and smoothness to my ex-Swisstool Spirit X, as possible. I do not own the Spirit but I can tell you this thing now feels very close in hand. The whole look and appearance is now taken up the notch and feel much more luxurious. It’s smooth, sleek and the tools are buttery soft to open and close.

    Things done:

    – polished the scales (these had to be sanded with finer grade sand paper first (800) then gradually 1200, 2000 and 4000)
    – refinished the brushed finish on the pliers head. They are now in ‘soft’ 1200 finish, very similar to my old Spirit X plier head. I also softened the pliers edges so there’s no sharp edges any more. The thing is now smooth as a baby’s bum 8)
    – polished all tool except the OHO blades. This was quite a challenge as polishing fine bead blasted surfaces proved to be a more tedious process than I anticipated
    – polished top and bottom pivot screws
    – polished all spacers (4 copper from the top pivots and three S/S from the bottom tool set) This is something I would highly recommend to anyone who would like his LM tools to open and close smoother. Mine now has both the tools and spacers polished and the feel is just phenomenal as there’s minimal rub between them, now.
    – polished bottom round stops at the end of the handles
    – polished hex bit and jeweler’s screwdriver. This was more for that uniform S/S look than anything else.

    Few pics:

    Hope you like it.
