Although I own plenty of 5.11, LAPG, and old school BDU cargo pants, I have not been shy about stating my preference for “carpenter style” pants here on the forum because of what I consider better/more useful pocket layout in the carpenters. I run a full size light in the left leg tool pocket, full size MT in the right leg tool pocket, a bandana in the LR, and an Endura in the RR. Sometimes an Olight i-series in the watch pocket as backup.

Carhartts, Dickies, some off brand, I don’t care… this style of pants are perfection for on body EDC, imho.

Now that the warmer weather is back, I’ve been in shorts again. As you might imagine, I prefer carpenter style in shorts as well. But, because I just ordered another 5.11 kilt and needed to get over $100 to get free shipping, I took a chance and picked up a pair of Taclite shorts.

How are they? In a word, horrible! Actually, they are very well made, but the person who designed the pockets should be run out of town. Anyway, I’ve worn them on long hikes, driving, pushing the cart at the grocery for Mrs. Cone, etc. for two or three weeks and I still can’t fathom why anybody thinks these so called tactical pants or the pocket layout is any good.

So, just as ladies in the sixties burned an undergarment (undergarment… the young kids still call it that, right?) in protest and sparked a revolution of a sort, so should we with these ill conceived pants.

It’s time to burn the tactical cargos! Who’s with me?
