KeymasterSomething very interesting happened to me that tells a lot about how people perceive us.
I had been considering buy a light weight vest with lots of pockets as a way of being able to carry more EDC items without weighing down my pants. I was looking into “tactical vests” that had lots of pockets, but had a very “military” look to them because of such things as obvious magazine pouches, etc. My concern here was that I would look like a threat to some people given the worry about mass shootings, etc. A tactical look might draw attention to me that I did not want.
So instead I bought a “adventure/travelers” vest from Eddie Bauer. LL Bean has similar vests as do many other stores aimed at hikers, sportsmen, etc. It has all the pockets on want but no magazine pockets and it does not have the “tactical” look to it. When I wear this with my cargo pants, I look like a hiker, fly fisherman, or any other type of non-threatening sports person.
Now when I go around town I am accepted with ease in any situation, it never occurs to anyone I might be “packing” or have any number of suspect items on me. I mean it is at the point that I expect people to start asking investment advice from me. If someone finds a lost Golden Retriever, I know they are going to assume it is mine.
The point of all this is that if you want to “blend” or soften your image, yet carry lots of goodies, look into a travel or adventure vest from one of the outdoor clothing companies. You will be totally amazed at how well you are accepted once you wear one.
OK, good luck,
