I’ve been diabetic for a while and had an insulin pump for about 9 years. Every time I post a video on my YouTube channel or a picture of Instagram of my EDC gear I always get questions about my insulin pump. Most people think it is a pager. I was just wondering if I was the only diabetic out in the group.
My ex-GF did. Had for many years. Attached to her abdomen, she had an elastic Velcro belt she used to clip it to.
We still talk, although haven’t seen each other in like, 8? Years ??
She was able to finally get a kidney and pancreas transplant 7yrs ago. Changed her life.
No more pump required, but the medication regimen is a real bear.
As far as I can remember, everyone thought her’s was a pager too.I have a couple of friends with pumps (and CGMs), but my own diabetes is Type 2, with no insulin needed. Pumps were just becoming more widespread when I left clinical nursing, so I never had a lot of experience with them.
One of my Granddaughters has had to use one for a couple years now. She pretty much keeps it covered, so she doesn’t hear much about it.
I just use the clip on my 670g most of the time, either on my belt or clipped into my right jeans pocket. Wherever it’s not going to get knocked when I get in the car and easily accessible when it beeps and I’m driving! (drivers side is R hand side of car)
I found an interesting seller in the US called Type 1 Tactical and tempted with one of his holders – they are just a little pricey though, but certainly worth a look as the clips on his pump holsters vary in size for normal belts, duty belts, gun belts etc.
Are those things EMP shielded? Do you have to stay away from microwaves, like they (used to?) warn people with pacemakers?
I’m diabetic Type 2, but am able to control mine with diet and tablets.

I take two Rx meds: metformin and glypicide. I do take some vitamins etc (e.g., C, Zn, B12, D3) but these are not particular for diabetes.I’m also sorta careful about diet especially with regard to glycemic index. Early on I ‘stumbled’ across the South Beach Diet and the body of books published about this; this has become my ‘user manual’. I suppose the fact that my bachelor’s degree is in Biochemistry also helped me recognize the significance!
Going back to June 2012, my highest measured A1C was once 9.7 (and I do mean ONCE). Treating that single reading as an outlier, I average 6.36 over an approximately 7 year period.
So, both I and my internist are happy with this trend line!
