KeymasterThis is what I carry on a daily bases in the hospital’s cardiology/ccu ward.. Yes my uniform-pockets nearly exploded and yes, other collegues carry even more
I’m carrying this right now, but this all changes a lot, such as the amound of IV-needles, syringes, gauze pads, etc.
– Emergency & Critical Care pocket guide / ACLS-version. An awesome pocket reference for anyone who handles cardiac patients, EMS, etc.
– A piece of paper with relevant information, dnr’s, sceduled OR’s, etc. of all of our patients which we recieve at the start of our shift. This paper is affectionally called ‘my memory’
– nitrile gloves. I always grab a fistfull of gloves when I pass by a box of them and stuff them in my pocket. I hate not having gloves around when you need them.
– Littmann master classic stethoscope in black. It’s way better to have your own than use the crappy sprague-style scopes at work. Plus, the black looks very cool
– some spare ECG-patches
– 9v. battery. We’ve got telemetry on our ward which is sort of a ‘wireless ecg monitor’ which makes the patients more mobile. The patient wears a small ecg-device which transmits the ecg to the nurses-station, in which we have a monitor. Those devices take 9v batteries and always seem to have a low battery.. which gives an annoying signal on our pagers.
– special adhesive bandages for securing IV’s
– 4×4 and 2×2 gauze pads
– small adhesive bandages (not pictured)
– IV constricting band (same story as the stethoscope. I’ve got myself a quality-one)
– pair of hemostats
– penlight
– small gizmo which helps counting heartbeats
– bandage-scissors
– 3M Durapore tape
– photon microlight knock-off
– hand-sanitizer
– Nitro-spray for relieving specific types of chest pain
– saline flush ampules
– syringes
– needles
– IV-needles
– spare caps for placing on IV-caths, ng-tubes, etc.
– alcohol prep-pads
Not pictured for obvious reasons:
– hospital ID-badge with keycard for getting into the med-cabinets.
That’s it. Don’t hesitate to ask if you’ve got questions.
