KeymasterHello,
I just failed my N95 fit testing, so I need to buy my own PAPR. My job starts 4/20 and all the places I’ve called have may or June delivery date, too late.Does anyone have any ideas or connections? Thanks

KeymasterI would think right now they are going to hospitals . I can’t imagine an employer that doesn’t supply specialized PPE like a papr. I am pretty sure that I wouldn’t want to work for them. That leaves you with shaving clean enough to get a seal for N95 mask

KeymasterYou don’t “fail” N95 fit testing; they’re supposed to fit you with a different size instead. This doesn’t sound kosher…

Yup, could taste the saccharin with all available masks. Sorry.September 24, 2025 at 7:57 am #21947admin
KeymasterSince your unable to source masks, and likely not going to be able to for the foreseeable future you might look into making your own masks, or some type of face covering with a replaceable filter pocket which could be cleaned and use sections of furnace filters for the replacement filter.
Look up “MERV rating furnace filters”, here are a couple links for a starting point.

KeymasterAre you in the U.S.? I think OSHA requires an employer to provide PPE. Personally I think I would else where I my employer wasn’t willing to provide PPE .
Sounds fishy to meSeptember 24, 2025 at 7:58 am #21950admin
KeymasterUnfortunately there are plenty of Healthcare employers limiting access to PPE. Didn’t mean for my earlier response to sound snarky; I’d meant to to mean that it didn’t sound like you were being told the right thing. I have my doubts that you’ll find a PAPR or a CAPR at this point though. The homemade cloth masks seem to be a thing but that isn’t going to help you if you need an N95.

KeymasterLooking at some 3M N95 masks I got in 2007, they expired in 2018.

Unless you are going to be in close contact to a person who is covid positive they will still be fine . The call for the general public to wear mask is as much to keep you from spreading the virus as it is to protect youSeptember 24, 2025 at 7:58 am #21957admin

As long as they have been stored in a cool, dry place, and the foam and elastic are pliable and not disintegrating, then they should be fine for your purposes.Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
