KeymasterI just had to say I love modern tech. I recently got at Walmart a lithium battery jumpstarter. For the low price they are now, I have now bought one for each of my vehicles. I have since I was driving a good heavy duty set of jumper cables, but then you are always at the mercy of another driver or being able to get another vehicle to where you need to be jumped. With this battery pack I can jump my car from a battery brick small enough to fit inside my jacket pocket. And when the winter weather that kills my battery in the morning is done with, it also has a flashlight and a 2 amp USB charging port on it. I can’t believe how long it took me to get one. I strongly recommend one of them for everyone who has a car. I have jumped myself a couple of times already with it, and a few coworkers who have batteries that could not handle the cold.

KeymasterI have looked at one before, but the ones I’ve seen have been the size of a briefcase. Could you post a pic of link to it? I’m also interested to know how long it will keep charge without recharging it

KeymasterI will get a pic up in a little bit. And with it being a lithium battery pack it should maintain a usable charge for quite a while. The instructions say it might need to be topped off every 3 months, but I would expect due to the very slow self discharge rate that it would still have a usable charge after 6 months

KeymasterThats a good shelf life, If you really wanted to I guess you could hook up a charging system for it in your car, which is what I’m probably going to look into doing now. Thanks for sharing

KeymasterThey can be charged via a cigarette adapter. Mine came with that and a wall plug

KeymasterSounds interesting. I have been looking at jump starters but since I got a new truck I stopped. Still good to have and being a small size is a big plus. I like the fact that it is a good backup source for phone and tablet charging.

KeymasterNow I will say, just had the chance to try out another feature, it can start a car that doesn’t have a battery installed. It is supposed to be very draining on the battery, but was able to start up a car that had the battery removed.

KeymasterFunny, I just bought a somewhat similar unit, which is due to be delivered today. It’s a “Stanley 1000 am Peak Jump Starter with Compressor, model J5C09”. It’ll supply 500 starting amps and can inflate a tire (or a pool toy!) and it has a single USB charging port, LED light and a 12v cigarette lighter socket. I strongly agree with geekandwife. The unit I bought cost $80 and in the event that you need a jump start and no one is around, this will get you going. It’s a low-cost safeguard.

KeymasterI just got one for Christmas. Mine has a power inverter to charge laptop, USB for cell phones, tire pump and flashlight. It weighs a ton but is well worth it.

KeymasterI have one of the large ones and really think it has been one of my best investments. I have used it on my battery twice and probably almost 2 dozen coworkers in the office parking lot.
As I work with a lot of cameras, I also use it to charge batteries and phones while I am shooting video and taking photos.
I have also used it as a camping battery to run lights, fan and radio for 3 nights and still have plenty of juice left.
