This knife causes a stir to true knife enthusiasts because its been marketed as the UlTIMATE Survival Knife. I beg to differ.

First the specs. Its overall length is 10″ with a 4.8″ blade that is 1/2″ carbon steel. About 11.2 oz in weight and comes with a sheath with built in fire steel and diamond sharpener. It also comes with a pommel for hammering and a lanyard with an emergancy whistle attached.

I picked one of these up for about $50 at Wal-Mart so I could see how this knife could perform. In regards to batoning and chopping, eh it did ok. The ergonomics on the handle are very nice and its rubberized to give you a nice grip. Some like that, some dont. Overall, it performed JUST OK.

1 thing I found wrong with this knife is that after using it for a while I noticed the serrations were completely destroyed. And on a side note, I prefer to not have the serations because they really limit what you can do to choke up on the blade and do some more precise bushcrafting.

The sheath is not bad but there are not many carry options regarding how you could attach it to either yourself or a bag. The fire steel throws a decent spark and one thing I did like was that they added a tiny burr on the backside of the knife to use as a striker for the fire steel.

Many who received the first batch of these knives gave complaint that the pommel on the knife was breaking. Gerber fixed this problem and I didnt not experiance any breakage with mine.

All in all, its not a bad knife but it defiantly needs improvement if its going to be labeled as the ULTIMATE Survival Knife. And if theyre going to call it the ULTIMATE knife, I would have rather seen a polished blade rather than the coated one to be used for signalling.

So, ULTIMATE? Not even close. This is basically a more affordable version of the LMF-2 which Gerber makes very well and Im very impressed with. So in my opinion, I wouldnt waste your money on this product. At least not until they make drastic improvements.
