KeymasterI was stoked to go home today as I just got this in the mail earlier this morning.
Best news I received in the last 8 days. This is a mini-review. Please let me know if I missed anything or if you are interested in something about the blade…
Meet Mora:
Specs off the ‘net:
- 105 mm blade, 4.13″
- 220 mm overall, 8.66″
- Stainless Steel Blade
- Manufacturer – Mora of Sweden
- Made in Sweden
The sheath is made of hard plastic in a fabulous OD Green. Never thought I’d be happy to see this shade of green again. The sheath comes with a fixed belt loop that can be slipped on without taking your belt off. Here’s a view of the back.
Notice the drain hole at the end. Being an open sheath, rain will be pouring through on a drizzly day.
Made in Sweden, along with the manufacturer’s tags:
The knife sheathed. At this time, it’s a bit of a challenge to pull out the last 3 inches of the handle. I have medium-sized hands and I can’t pull it out without holding the other end down and gripping the handle by the (green) knock at the end.
It does have a thumb stud to push off from, but I guess it takes a little getting used to. Even with a belt loop, I think I’ll be fashioning a paracord retainer as a loop and hang the sheath as a dangler. I don’t see the belt loop working for me as designed (probably work on it over the weekend).
Close up view fail haha
Etched on the blade is the MoraKniv logo, “Made in Sweden”, and “Stainless Steel”.And the knife in it’s simplistic beauty.
Here’s a view beside a Spyderco Tenacious for size comparison.
And if you don’t have the Tenacious, here’s a view beside my REI membership card (standard credit card size)
First Impressions:
- Price Point: A definite bargain.
- Edge: The knife came wicked sharp. I graze my thumb across the edge and I say it’s razor sharp.
- Ergonomics: Sits naturally at the palm of my hand, length is just right (for me that is). Rubbery feeling on the grip, you know this isn’t slipping off your hands.
- Weight: Light to handle. It’s almost like carrying nothing.
- Use: Can’t be used for hacking, chopping, or as a splitter, but this will make short work of any small tasks you put it too.
There are a few small spurs left out where the plastic molds meet, but nothing a few knicks will fix. If I had to suggest anything for it, a lanyard hole would probably not be too much to ask. Over-all, for a $15 blade, not a bad score, eh?
Other models are: 840 MG (same OD green theme, but no obvious difference I can see except for the $12 mark), 860F (bright orange instead of green), and the Classic #1 (carbon steel blade and red birch wood handle).
Hope this helps those who are contemplating on getting a Mora.
My advice? Stop thinking and just go get it. -
