KeymasterI’ve titled the thread so that anyone who might be thinking of a pen as a gift this year should be able to use it, but here are the floodgates I need opened:
I’ve got a Family Secret Santa w/ a total budget of $150.
–My giftee is asking for a “nice or cool” pen
–Giftee has specified around the $40 mark, presumably for fear of losing it
–$40 a significant part of the budget and makes this the “big” gift of the year
–Within reason, I don’t much care about the budget: too high is going to cause issues on the 25th, but if I need to sneak up to $50 or $60 or whatever; so-be-it
–giftee is a young semi-exec, wears a collar everyday, carries an old-school briefcase, travels constantly for client face timeHere is what we are going for:
–Ballpoint, sorry fountain pen lovers
–Might attract at least mild attention for being nice/unique/cool
–No overtly “tactical” pens: it would just confuse the wee laddie; “tacti-cool” if it leans right — remember, too, he is flying all the time
–No Montblanc elegant luxury stylingHere is basically what I’m familiar with:
–US SS Jotter lives on my desk (so I don’t lose it) replacing a Fisher Shuttle
–Matte black Cap-o-matics float all over the place (I can literally see 4 from where I am sitting) and get thrown in bags for the office or wherever
–Fisher bullet pens replace by a Cu Hinderer Investigator to live in my pocket
–I’ve a number of other Cu pens (an illness) from smaller places: an Embassy, a Solloz, a Retrakt on the wayWhat should I be looking at? A Rotring (rapid PRO, 800 series)? Is there a world of Japanese pens I need to check? Should I stop at a Hinderer Extreme? A Render K? A Bolt (did I read that there were some issues with the early ones?
In advance, I appreciate all responses that would score a semi-relavent or higher on the Universal On Topic Scale. Semi being above Quasi, but below Near.
Seriously, thanks all.
