Just got the Uni 2mm lead sharpener from Jetpens. It was unusable at first because the blade was too aggressive. I removed the blade and shimmed it up by placing a small piece of paper under it. After the modification, it makes nice sharp points although it takes some time to do it. I thought about finding a thinner shim, but decided against it out of fear of stripping the screw hole.

A friend of mine has one of these and it worked perfectly out of the box so maybe I was just unlucky and got one that was on the outside edge of what their quality control allows. Anyway, I was able to correct it so there’s no harm done.

It can’t compete with a rotary sharpener (I have the Steadtler Mars rotary sharpener), but it fits in my pack and there’s no risk of leaking graphite powder like the rotary sharpener has done in the past. It will make a fine backup sharpener for when I’m not at my desk.
