So, I’ve heard a lot about Leatherman bits being soft. It seems to be a common complaint, and it was a trade-off that I accepted when I chose a Wave about four months ago. A couple days ago, though, I was putting together a new computer table at work. I hadn’t anticipated that I would need a drill driver to assemble it, but the pilot holes were a bad joke. So, I had a choice to either leave the thing half assembled, with no place for my computer, until I could bring a drill from home, or suck it up and run eight wood screws into MDF with good old fashioned elbow grease and really no pilot holes to speak of. To my surprise, the Philips bit on my Wave ran those suckers right in there, and never slipped once. I was putting a lot of torque on that thing, enough to definitely strip some other low-quality bits I’ve used. (I’m lookin’ at you, Black and Decker!) Anyway, I might someday experience the same frustration that others have expressed, but the LM bits definitely passed muster this week.
