Well, it’s time to give the new TEC Glow Fobs some exposure! For the first time, we are giving you a sneak peek of our latest product and have also decided to host a giveaway to get the ball rolling. So…here are a few preliminary photos of the new TEC-A3 and TEC-S3 Glow Fobs:

Note: The last image shows a tritium vial mounted in the glow fob housing, and the exposure has been “embellished” a bit. This was a test shot and does not indicate an accurate brightness of the tritium vial.

The TEC-A3 Glow Fob is a unique glow-in-the-dark (GITD) keychain fob unlike any you have ever seen. The internal glow pellet consists of a clear acrylic tube filled with a special glow powder and resin mixture. The pellet is mounted inside a protective aluminum housing with a durable Type III hard anodize finish.

When exposed to light, it will glow for hours…the longer the exposure time and the higher the light intensity, the longer and brighter it will glow. Glow times can last as long as 12 hours!

Attach the TEC-A3 to your car keys or even a flashlight, so you can always find them when the lights go out. Attach it to your jacket as a zipper pull so your friends can locate you inside a movie theater or outside at night! You can clip it to a backpack, camping gear, or even to the pull chain on a ceiling fan…the uses are endless!

[Properties]:

The process used to provide the desired glow feature is based on a charge/discharge cycle. You must first charge the pellet with light, which is then stored and slowly discharged. In order to achieve the best possible results from your unit, please review the following tips regarding light exposure and charging times.

The glow mixture within the pellet contains a precise ratio of glow powder and resin to achieve the best glow results. The glow powder itself reacts best when exposed to the UV portion of the light spectrum (i.e. sunlight), so daytime indoor room light or outdoor exposure will provide the best charge. In general, a short intense exposure will result in a very bright initial glow, but will rapidly fade since the pellet has not had a lot of time to charge. Exposure to light for an extended period of time will result in a slightly less intense glow, but it will last for a much longer period of time.

A pellet that is charged in ordinary sunlight or room light for an extended period will have a noticeable glow when the lights are turned off, and will diminish gradually over the course of several hours. Although the glow intensity will fade considerably over a long duration of time, it is not uncommon to still see a recognizable glow after 8-12 hours, especially with dark-adapted vision. This charging and discharging cycle can be performed an infinite number of times.

The TEC Glow Fobs are designed to allow easy replacement or exchange of the glow pellet by simply removing the o-ring at the end of the housing. We offer an optional DIY kit for those of you who may want to try making your own pellet inserts. Possible projects include glow pellets of different colors, or making a self-luminous tritium insert.

Some details have been mentioned in a previous thread, but I will restate a few facts:

1. There will be 2 versions available at the official product release, aluminum (as stated above) and stainless steel.
2. The glow pellets are manufactured by Andygold from CPF. These ARE the best GITD pellets manufactured anywhere, period.
3. We have a small pre-production run of parts that are currently available (aluminum only). These will be available in the forum store, probably within the next 2 weeks.
4. MSRP has been established, the aluminum version will retail for $18 and the stainless steel will retail for $22.
5. A DIY kit will be available so the user can mount a tritium vial in a clear tube and replace the glow fob pellet with the tritium pellet. The tubes will accept a 3mm x 23mm tritium vial, which can be purchased on CPF from MERKAVA.
