While Christmas shopping, a local retailer had a great deal on the Leatherman Sidekick and Wingman. My nearly 16 year old son has had several cheap, crappy multitools that have been universally disappointing. I’ve been wanting to get him a better one. I’ve also been thinking of getting myself a mid-size multitool. I love my Supertool but it’s a big chunky thing for as much as I’ve been using it these last few years. So I got one each of the Sidekick and Wingman, one for him as a Christmas gift and one to keep for myself.

I opted to keep the Wingman, mainly because of the box ripper tool. I don’t really need the scissors as I already have a Style CS on my keychain, I’d probably get more use out of the saw but I’ll use the box ripper more than either so that was the deciding factor.

I hadn’t said anything to anyone about getting myself the Wingman. Obviously everyone in the house knew about the Sidekick for the kid.

So today, completely out of the blue, the kid says he wished his new multitool had scissors instead of the saw. WHAT?!? Umm…hang on… I retrieved my Wingman and a couple of Torx drivers. The saw and scissors occupy the same space in the frame so it was a fairly easy deal for him to make the swap while I worked on a couple other things.

He couldn’t have known I had the Wingman and says that while he was aware of it’s existence in the catalog, didn’t know what tools it offered.

So now we are both quite tickled. He with his Sideman, and I with my Wingkick. Now he just wants to add a knob to the knife blade to make it easier to deploy. That’s my kid. :D
