I asked in a previous thread about things to keep in my house while I’m in college. (I’m in an off campus apartment)
I’ve come to a firm belief that being in a college town and with the number of drunk people and people around my age, (and then there’s people who are both), means that I shouldn’t keep a rifle in the house. I was looking at something for home defense. Granted, I am in a gated neighborhood, and it’s on the better part of town, but maybe because of that, I’ve had stuff stolen from right outside my front door, and there have been break ins in the community.
Now, given the number of families with young kids and dogs and such, some sort of mistake would be the worse thing imaginable. I have three other apartments connected to mine. One adjacent, one above me, and one adjacent to that. Only the two above me are occupied with other college students, but the walls and the floors/ceilings are thin. Also, however, it’s important to note that I’m not a drinker, and I don’t ever have parties here. I do end up having a drunk friend stay the night if they can’t drive, but that’s about it. I’m thinking with a safe, it might be all good.
I have taken shooting lessons a few times from a trained firearm instructor. I’ve learned to shoot handguns as well as semi-automatic rifles. I haven’t shot a shotgun once. I’ll have to go back to the range a bit.
If I can just get some thoughts on the matter, I’d really appreciate it.
Thanks.
