Hi, I’ve been thinking about all the different trigger options out there for semiautos. Thus far, with my limited shooting, I’ve preferred short, light trigger pulls. With that in mind, I was thinking that my first significant caliber handgun would be SA-capable, or even SA-only-capable, e.g. something where I can thumb the hammer or rack the slide, then shoot in single action mode for every shot.

I know that for CCW, this isn’t reliable, i.e. regardless of training and practice the extra action will always cost time. However, what about use as a home defense pistol in a low crime area, and with two big dogs as an early alert/deterrence system? The idea is that compared to the time it takes to open the safe and get the pistol, the extra time to  the pistol is much less noticeable.

Lastly, I know that I’ll have to train the DA pull even if I generally expect to use the SA. My question is if it’s totally crazy to store a DA/SA gun in a safe in condition two or three, and expect to use it in SA-only mode for home defense. Thanks!
