So I want to get a decent EDC before the end of the year. I need you guys to keep me from doing anything stupid. :frantic:

My needs are just light EDC. My budget is $40 for a single blade, and around $55 for two. I’m not really looking for you guys to come in with lots of knives you think are better, but rather tell me what you think of my ideas.

So… one idea was a to get a Kershaw Chill, and a Spyderco Grasshopper, for about $35. I’m not sure the Grasshopper anymore, since I found something else that would be more to my liking as a backup.
As for the Chill, you guys have given me plenty of information on that, but I would like to know if you have noticed blade play in yours.

The other idea was a Chill as a main EDC blade, while I could have a Mini Tuff Lite as a backup, being MTL’s can be found for under $20. I like the idea of a the MTL being for any tasks that might mess up the slightly delicate Chill. I like this idea a lot.

The next one was a Kershaw Leek. I got to handle one once. It felt solid, and opened fast, and was sharp. Man, it just felt like quality. I’m not sure about the tip though. I also don’t like how slick the handle’s were, it felt like I might drop it as it opened. And dropping a Leek is going to mean a broken tip, a cut foot, or both. So would the tip hold up to carefully opening the occasional clamshell packaging?

Then my final idea, if I could get some decent money, would be a Leek and a Mini Tuff Lite, and perhaps the Tuff lite could save the Leek’s tip for at least a while.

Sorry for the long post, but I want to make a choice that is at least decent, and will leave me with some workable blades.

I would really appreciate what you guys think on this. Thank you for your comments.

Edited for clarity and brevity. I would prefer you to say if my choices would leave me with a decent blade or not, and which idea seems the best.
