Just wanted to take a moment and bring up something many of you know but others don’t. There are compromises to anything in life and lights are no different.

To keep this basic and short, your eyes don’t appreciate output on the same level of the battery. **Our eyes see light in a logarithmic fashion so increasing current 400% doesn’t result in an equivalent performance gain; on the contrary this demand on the light results in exponential inefficiency due to various factors.**

No light can be smaller than its battery(s). In the dark 80 lumens with a small reflector is extremely bright and when your eyes are adjusted usually too bright. That’s why having a few modes is handy. The less you use the more you have so self-control (while not fun) is paramount.

If you want impressive runtime from a AAA light don’t expect much output (with current tech) or get a bigger light. Better yet, carry multiple. I have an Quantum DD on a necklace, Peak in my pocket and P60 shorty in my jacket.

A fancy EDC light that doesn’t work when you need a flashlight is an irony I hope nobody has to experience :(.

    ** Edited thanks to Scaru.
