KeymasterA few weeks ago, I literally ran out of the homestead without paying much attention to what I was placing IN my pockets: not a rarity for me because I place the items in a Pelican case for the next day. The items rarely change because I decided long ago on what they have been for many years. The ONLY item that was in the Pelican that should not have been in there was the obscure Gerber folder the model of which I am unable to determine.
Hours later, I reached into the pocket in which the Gerber was clipped and lacerated my hand with the blade that had exited battery due to a lack of a detent. Injury was not serious. I carried the folder for the remainder of the multi-state trip although not in the same place as the Small Sebbie.
It turns out that I had removed the CRK small Sebbie from the Pelican case to touch-up the blade. I was also touching-up the blade of the Gerber when the door rang and I answered. I had to help a neighbor with an emergency. I asked my daughter to put the blades away. Sebbie in the Pelican and the Gerber in the cabinet. Both folders are almost identical in appearance to the uninitiated: gray scales, non-shiny blade, and ambi thumbstuds.
My daughter notified me that the office had called and that I was needed. I was expecting the call so I was out the door in 15 minutes.
I stopped by a knife store during the trip to buy a replacement for the Gerber when I needed to take a phone call. I asked one of my underlings to buy a large Sebenza since I didn’t want another small Sebbie. He handed me the bag that contained the large Sebenza. I stuffed it in my carryon. So I thought.
Two hours later, we met a colleague who lent me a striped ZT for the rest of the trip since I dismissed the Gerber and could NOT find the large Sebenza.
A few days ago, I found the large Sebenza in an obscure pocket of my carryon that I ordinarily do not use; except that it is NOT a large Sebenza. It is not even a Sebenza or any other Chris Reeve product.
I asked the underling what he bought me. He said that the store ran out of large Sebenzas and the sales guy gave him something similar. He said that he tried to tell me that detail but I was too busy answering calls.
What he bought me is a Böker product: gray-colored scales with a CRK-esque frame lock, matte-finished clip point blade, and blue Ti pocket clip. It looks quite Sebenza-like to the uninitiated. “Böker Plus” & “CPM S35VN” is imprinted on one side of the blade and “VOX” on the other side.
Upon research on the web, I find this model to be the F3. Looks to be well-made. The blade spine is quite thick, and the clip and scales are Ti.
So now I find myself to be the owner of TWO Böker products within weeks of purchasing each other.
Anyone else here also own the Böker F3?
