KeymasterHey everyone, I’ve been looking at keychain tape measures and it got me thinking. Exactly how much tool-age (excuse my inability to think of a better word) can one fit into a tape measure while still retaining the basic tool? So, my question to all of you gear savvy people is: Are there any other tape measures + whatevertool?
Requirements:
- Must have at least 1 tool other than the keychain.
- One must be able to attach it to a keychain.
- Must be within a reasonable keychain weight. Let’s say 3 oz max.
- The tape measure must be in inches. Though having cm and mm is a nice bonus.
Notice how build quality wasn’t on this list. I know that generally these mass produced promotional items aren’t built to last but I plan on buying several to keep as backups.
Here are the ones I found. I’ll be waiting anxiously to see what you guys unravel:
What I like:
- Form factor. To me, this oval shape is ideal for keychain carry
- The tool set. It has 2 small phillips and flatheads. It also looks like I’d be able to fit standard bits. I’m hoping that’s the case (fingers crossed!)
What I don’t like:
- I’m having a very difficult time finding one that’ll ship samples to me for a reasonable price. The one I linked to charges $20 for shipping!
- I’m not sure whether or not the tape measure is in inches.

What I like:- The tool set. It has 2 small phillips and flatheads. It also looks like I’d be able to fit standard bits. I’m hoping that’s the case (fingers crossed!)
- It measures in inches and cm/mm! At least according to the description.
What I don’t like:
- Form factor. I don’t think the circular shape would work very well in keychain carry.
- FOR ME, I don’t feel that the flashlight is necessary. FOR ME, it’s added weight and won’t improve my EDC. I already carry a flashlight and a backup with me. I think that another would start to become redundant.
- LR41 batteries. I don’t have anything else that uses these batteries nor do I want to buy spares JUST for this light. Like I stated above, I already carry enough flashlights.
