I’ve had a pair of Wolverine Big Horn boots for a number of years now and I’ve been pretty pleased with them. They’re comfortable and keep my feet warm and dry. They’re 8″ tall, 600 gram Thinsulate, Gore-Tex, and Vibram soles. Apparently my feet have gotten bigger over the years so I’m looking for a replacement. Frankly, I don’t wear them all that often – mostly on the coldest days, shoveling snow, occasional winter walks in the woods – so I really don’t want to spend a fortune.

Wolverine’s new version replaces the Gore-Tex with their own membrane and the Vibram soles are gone too. 600 gram Thinsulate seems to do the trick for me but most other boots seem to be 400 or 800 grams but I really don’t know how much of a difference it makes.

Something like the Danner East Ridge might do the trick. Gore-Tex, Vibram, but only 400 grams of insulation. A little pricey too for what I need. Their Pronghorns don’t have a Vibram sole and at least with my 452’s their sole was lacking in wet traction but the Terra Force platform was pretty comfortable. I’d prefer brown (or some brown shade), nylon is fine, and to stay away from camo.

    Any suggestions?
