Right now, I’m on the lookout for a letter and package opener for my keychain. I’d like to see what others have. I’m looking for something:
Not too sharp to put in my pocket. I don’t want a folding or covered blade so it’s got to have just the right sharpness.
Non-threatening so I can use it in the lift
About the size of keys
Sharp enough to open packages
I’m aware that Prometheus has one such tool right now, and in fact I got an early bird, but I’ll probably let it go as $40 is still too expensive. The thing is, it seems very easy to make one. You could just sharpen plastic or wood. I thought of making one out of fiberglass/G10/carbon fiber. I tried making one out of aluminium. I asked a maker and a custom titanium prybar would cost $80. Right now, I’m testing this blade I liberated, blunted then sharpened again:

It’s working quite well, could be a bit sharper though. Making it gave me an idea of what it takes to make a knife. I have a CRKT KERT on the way that I hope is sharp enough. The hook style blade might be able to be sharper. A lot of letter openers work like that.
