I have been looking for a backpack that could serve as a regular day pack but also carry a laptop and camera gear if required. There have been a few false starts along the way: f-Stop and ThinkTank were too camera-orientated, Maxpedition was not enough. A few months ago I found the Pacsafe Camsafe v25 and I think it is the one.

It is equipped with all of Pacsafe’s usual security features including knife-resistent straps, locking zips, etc. Basic design is lower compartment for camera and related stuff, the upper is for other gear, there is an admin pocket on the front and a laptop/hydration bladder pocket on the back. The camera with mounted lens can be quick-drawn from the side. If you don’t have camera with you the padding can be removed making a single main compartment.

All the zips can be locked and there are carabiners, mounted on elastic, tucked away that can be used to keep zips out of the way.

The admin pouch. The internal pocket, top right, is RFID sheathed. A negative is that it is not deep enough to fully contain a passport.

The upper section of the main compartment. Bottom can be opened to join to lower camera section if required.

This is the camera section, which is large enough to hold a body with telephoto lens mounted, two extra lens, memory cards, spare battery and charger.

13″ MacBook Air is swallowed by the laptop compartment.

Contents but there is room for more, for example I would add a change of clothes and a wash bag for a long haul flight.

    Positives:

    • Flexibility
    • Security features
    • General quality

    Negatives:

    • Shoulder adjustment buckles are too far back to tighten with the pack on

    Conclusion
Overall I am very pleased with this bag. As I said at the start I think this is the one.
