KeymasterI’ve had it! Windows 8 absolutely SUX (and that’s being nice)! I don’t think I’ve ever used a more counter-productive tool in all my life! I’ve been around computers since before the PC, all through the DOS years, every evolution of Windows, up to and including Win 7…and then came Win 8. What absolute garbage! The PC world should absolutely revolt against MS for this crapola, I know I am!
It’s not enough that MS now feels compelled to fix something which isn’t broken, but now they’ve gone the extra mile to actually force you into doing things in differently (not more productive ways either), and prevent you from doing anything about it. Well, no more! I am so done with MS it’s not even funny! Win 8 was the very last straw! Never again!
I bought a notebook a while back to use as a small diagnostic tool for networks and systems. It came with Win 8 on it, and I have done nothing but fight this stupid OS since the very first day. Every single time I’ve touched the device there’s been some Win 8 complication which causes me to spend more time dealing with that then whatever it is I’m trying to do. There comes a point where ‘you are working for the device, it’s not working for you‘. When that time comes, it’s time to say “ENOUGH!” So long, Windows 8! I won’t be back!
It’s not enough that Win 8 is so buggy MS needs to download 35 patches every time you start the machine (wasting precious time), but just doing simple stuff like trying to ingest and process a simple picture is 100x harder than it needs to be. Yes, you can make it (sort of) work like it’s bigger, bullet proof, brother Win 7, but in order to do so you have to go through extra steps which you shouldn’t have to and even then it doesn’t work the same.
Want to downgrade? HA! You’re going to have to fight UEFI first because it’s not going to let you change things, you WILL use Win 8! On some machines that’s easier said than done. MS is going to force you to tweek the BIOS and risk your whole system to do that. In my mind this is intentional. MS says 8 is geared towards the new user. Well, guess what MS, 95% of your users are not ‘new’, AND they’re used to something different, something better. Those 95% of people probably are new to having to do something as risky as mess with their system BIOS in order to correct the CRAP you now force on them. What an absolute CROC!
Windows will never be Apple, so they shouldn’t try to be. Do I own Apple products? Sure; I’ve got an iPad and some iPhones, but Apple has some significant shortcomings also (i.e. they lack the file system flexibility of more open OS’s), and they’re absolutely designed to not function well in an enterprise client server environment. It’s the nature of the apple user. That’s okay, to each his own, and each has a purpose. I like them for what they are, but they’re not always what I need.
So, what to do? Well, the first thing is to say ‘goodbye’ to Windows and Windows 8 once and for all. Could I down-grade to 7? Yes, but why? Why should I have to fight the very company who tried to “fix” something (I didn’t need fixed) to get what I want (which was nothing at all…no change)? I’m not doing it. Nope, no more windows…sorry, Bill (not really)!
Recently I switched to open source LINUX (Ubuntu in this case). Within minutes after obliterating Win 8 and installing the new OS I had done more production than I had in weeks on the new notebook. It’s just absolutely shameful (to MS) how much more productive a tool is that let’s you do things the way they should be done and not force you to do something differently just ‘because’. Better, faster, more productive and WAY less overhead. Just shocking!
Now I’m just kicking myself for trying as long as I did to make Win 8 work for me, and not me work for it. No more! Buh-Bye Microsoft!
[/rant off]
Hopefully this helps others.
