I received a Carhartt “Sandstone Rugged Vest” over the holidays, and have been very impressed with it.
I’ve looked at them in the past, and liked them, but never bought one.
It has a heavy canvas outer shell, and is lined with a heavy sherpa fleece material, it is warm without being uncomfortable to wear indoors.
As much or more than materials though, I am impressed with the pocket layout for EDC.
It features two outer hand warmer pockets, which have a fairly secure space at their bottom ideal for carrying a mid size flashlight or a large folding knife, I carry my Malkoff in the left pocket and it has stayed there just fine.
It also has two large inside patch pockets, capable of carrying lots of odds and ends.
Best of all, it doesn’t look odd or stand out like a multi-pocketed Safari/photographer’s vest.
Perfect “grey man” attire in that regard.
Anyone else here make use of one of these vests for EDC???
Admittedly it’s not going to be good for those who need to dress business casual, or for those in warmer climates, but for temperate climates and casual wear, it seems like a pretty good option to me.
