My 8 year old nephew thinks all my gear is really “epic” and asked if I could make him a first aid kit “kinda like yours.” I gave him a pack a few years ago, and it’s his adventure pack that he takes on hikes with me.
I gave him his first knife a while ago, and he has been very responsible about it, but with a youngster and a knife, there is always the possibility of cut.
Now he is not first aid trained, but he’s a bright kid, and I suppose getting him into the mentality to always have a FAK on him is a good idea.
I figure a lot of stuff is kind of obvious, and he can’t go too wrong with some bandaids, gauze, tape, scissors, a burn dressing, a Tensor bandage, etc. and as he gets older, and he takes some first aid courses, I can add stuff to it.
I’ve kept it simple and light. Any suggestions for something that would be appropriate under the circumstances? I’ve avoided any pills, but thought some kids Benadryl might not be a bad idea.
