    What do you wear top to bottom? Here’s mine;

    Top from inside to out- Wool X merino or Onno hemp shirt(tucked in), regular cotton t-shirt or whatever I have, 100% wool sweater usually from the Salvation army, and then a button up long sleeve cotton shirt. This is usually good enough down to about 30F if the wind is not bad, provides great mobility and is low profile. Beyond that I will wear my thermal lined carhartt sweatshirt or jacket if it’s real bad.

    Bottom- Wool X merino underwear, 100% wool dress pants also from Salvation army-Yes that’s right, dress pants. They are $5, work great, and can be worn on their own when you come inside and let your outer layer dry. They even have pockets for all your gear! On the outside it’s usually Duluth jeans, Carhartt duck pants or most recently Carhartt blended twill pants (65%polyester 35%cotton).

    Feet- I have big feet(15-16) and have trouble finding good wool socks that don’t cut off my circulation. Right now it’s Smartwool lifestyles light cushion. I wore spots into the bottom of the first pair within a month or so. Since then, I have made felted wool boot inserts that not only keep my feet warm and dry, but also have halted the wear on my current socks so far.

    Gloves- Deerskin treated with snoseal. When it gets cold enough they get thin liner inserts.

    So far I am happy with this setup but am always looking for new gear.

    Vin
