My grandma recently gave me one of my grandfather’s old Zippos. From what I can find online, its circa 1950-54. Overall the case is in excellent shape. I’m interested in updating it with a butane insert, as I think this new modern take will be far more useful to me. When I open the case lid, there is a hint of wobble in the hinge. I don’t believe this is due to any defect or use for this particular case, but appears to be inherent in the design of the hinge for that time. Being new to Zippos, I have nothing else to compare it to and was curious as to the durability of these hinges (not sure if I want use the lighter if its too fragile) and whether there have been any updates to the hinge on the newer models. My thinking being, if the new hinges are far superior, I may just find a new used one and convert that, however, it would be cool to use the one I now have. Thanks!
