Gosh, I’m so mad. Ballpoint pens are the handiest pens, but they suck! I love them, but they suck.

The other day I bought a $22 Cross BP pen. I wanted a nice pen, and….well, I thought a Cross pen would be nice. It was a BP, but I thought I could put a gel insert in it if I didn’t like it. WRONG! Only specialized Cross refills fit this pen…and they’re all BP’s.

The pen skips, doesn’t start well and overall, it’s horrible and I hate it. I have a $0.45 Papermate Ink-Joy pen which completely BURIES the Cross pen, just blows it away in terms of writing quality and enjoyment.

I’m a big fountain pen guy, so I like nice pens, but fountain pens don’t always fit the bill. One thing I like about BP’s is the all-weather, all the time, element of them. At the end of the day it seems like if you want a really good BP pen, get a cheap one. You can run it over with your truck and it will still work.

…Maybe i’ll try running over this crappy Cross piece of crap with my truck. I won’t care if it still works, I’ll just leave it in the ditch! Dammit!
