Hi guys, just wanted to give a friendly heads up that Goruck had quietly made two changes to their GR1 and other bags which includes the GR2. I had made a thread on the reddit page but not everyone reads Reddit so I will post here as well.

    1) The laptop compartment NO LONGER has an exit port to connect a hydration bladder hose to to the hydration port to the top. It is now only accessible through the main compartment.

    2) The bottom of the bag is NO LONGER stitched with 1050d ballistic nylon, but stitched with the same material as the rest of the bag, 1000D Cordura.

I had recently purchased one and combed over the GR1 Explained page before purchase. It had not been updated of these changes that occurred in summer 2016. I was quite pissed about it, but I had requested they update their GR1 Explained page so future buyers don’t get confused (they complied.) I requested they let me know if a 26L comes in with the ballistic nylon, so I will update if they do actually accommodate me.

Minor changes, but when you’re paying 300$ for a bag, I’d say it’s a big deal. I was especially bummed to hear they are not using the ballistic nylon anymore, because “sewers have a difficult time sewing on the material”. This is a change that took eight years to occur. I was told it’s to simplify production (in other words, a cost cutting decision.)

It’s still a great backpack and some older production ones are still floating around I had bought both the 26 and 21 L and the 21 had ballistic nylon but it was too small so I returned it.
