I recently got a few 5.11 bags (the Rush 24 and MOAB10) and I love them both. I use the Rush 24 for longer trips and I was using the MOAB 10 for edc but I just could never get used to the sling style. So I have been eyeing the GORUCK GR1 and finally decided to bite the bullet.
Some first thoughts. It is HEAVY. But it feels so strong and also feels like quality so I think I am okay with it. It is also large looking but when I put it on (5’9″) it doesn’t look too big at all. The black material can make it difficult to see in the pockets. This especially true for the front slant pocket. BTW, this front slant pocket goes all the way down so I had read that previous years did not. It is a big pocket but in a vast way so things can get lost easily in it. The laptop compartment is the best I have seen in any bag. The lack of admin pocket is certainly the biggest drag. However, I am waiting for the Echo field pocket which I believe will settle my problem. I think it will be large enough and have the organization for a pen, lighter, Leatherman, knife, and such.
It is definitely on the border of being too large for EDC but so far it has been fine. The minimalist design and pockets are excellent. The internal molle is fantastic as well. Makes it very versatile.

Right now I have an S biner on one side and the 5.11 tier strap to hold a jacket.
