KeymasterI’ve been using my Tactile Turn Shaker for about 6 weeks now, and I love everything about it to death…except the knock. Its mechanism is too delicate, and I don’t like babying my tools. I expect a $100 pen to be at least as durable as my $7 Parker Jotters, which I take zero care of and which have lasted me for years.
So I’m in the market for an alternative — a durable, aesthetically pleasing pen in the same price range which is a pleasure to write with. That stuff is all subjective, so here’s what I like about my Shaker:
- The weight. I like that it’s a heavy pen.
- The copper. Copper is my favorite metal, and I love the patina.
- The subtle grooves at the business end. It’s perfect in my hand.
- The diameter. It’s substantial without being chunky.
- The length. It’s not an uncommon length, but it’s just right for me.
Right now, my top two contenders are a Maxmadco bolt action pen in stainless steel and a Ti2 Techliner in copper.
With the Maxmadco, I worry it’ll be too slender for me. I’d prefer copper, but stainless is a solid second choice. I don’t want to assume that the bolt action mechanism is durable (I assumed that about the Shaker’s knock…), but it looks durable.
With the Techliner, I don’t love the exposed nib or the gel refill. I also wonder whether the magnets are strong enough to mess with nearby credit cards, etc., but I do like that there are no moving parts, the cap posts, and it doesn’t screw on/off. (Edit: I emailed Mike at Ti2, and the answer was an unequivocal “No” on whether the magnets mess with stuff.)
Are there other pens I should consider? Are any of my worries about the Maxmadco and the Techliner unfounded?
Thanks in advance for any help you can provide!
