KeymasterHi All,
Recently decided to standardize all my lights over to AA batteries to facilitate better availability while traveling, and just because I am tired have having multiple batteries to buy. Mainly I would like to EDC a 2xAA, but if there was one that also had a 1xAA version, I could see having some companion lights with the same UI around. I’ve looked at Thrunite, Feenix, Olight, Streamlight, Nitecore, Maratac and others, but just can’t really seem to get a handle on which I want. Features that I really want are a pocket clip, tail clicky, ability to tail stand, 200+ lumens on the max, and a <1 lumen moonlight mode.
Here is my check list:
1) What do you plan to do with the light?
I am a laborer, mostly out doors and during the daylight hours, but if I need a light, it will be critical that it works (means that a vehicle broke down or a storm hit). I want to be able to throw a beam long distances while outdoors, but be able to read up close if need be. I want one (maybe 2 by using a 2xAA/1xAA set) light to do all things!2) What Region/Country/State will the light be purchased in?
[X ] I will be mail-ordering or buying online, so this doesn’t matter.3) Price Range: An easy question, but you may change your mind after answering the rest! :broke:
[X] $15-30
[X] $40-604) Format:
PART A
[X] I want a flashlight.5) What kind of “bulb”.
[X] LED6) What batteries do you want to use?
AA – Alkaline (for now), rechargables (perhaps later).7) How much light do you want?
[X] I want a firefly mode (<1 lumen)
[X] I want to light an entire campground or dazzle an intruder. (200+ lumens)8) Throw vs Flood:
Throw (distance)———-X————|———————-Flood/close-up9) Runtime:
[X] 60-240 min. (1-2 hours)
[X] 360+ min. (More than 6 hours)10) Durability: Generally the old phrase “you get what you pay for” is very accurate for flashlights.
[X] Very Important (Camping, Backpacking, Car Glove-box.)11) Switch Type:
[X] clickie switch. (Stays on until pressed again.)
[X] momentary switch. (Only stays on while held down.)12) Switch Location:
[X] I want a push switch on the back end of the body.13) Operational Modes:
[X] I want multiple light levels. (some lights have 5-16 light levels.)
[X] I want a tactical strobe. (Flashes rapidly to disorient an opponent.)14) Is it important whether the body is metal or plastic/composite?
[X] I don’t care.15) Special Needs: Is there anything else you want or need that hasn’t been mentioned? Circle any below or write in your own comment(s).
[X] Waterproof – how deep: _2 Meters?______
