I’ve been looking for a new thing to throw money at until I’m happy and I’ve started to take an interest in some of these precision machined spin tops. Some of them look just insane and spinning upwards of 10 minutes on some models… Needless to say I’m interested. So I looked at some of the prices on some of the really nice ones, and well… I’m not that interested yet.
I would like to buy one or two decent ones to get started, something in the $20-$30 range. It doesn’t have to be anything super fancy looking or spin for 15 minutes. But a decent top with a 5-10 minute spin, made of some decent metals, preferably with a ceramic bearing, but I’m not holding my breath for one in that price range. I know little about them at the moment, I just want to dip my toe in it and see if it’s something that interests me before I go and buy some $800 tritium vial laced damascus and cobalt monster top! Does anyone know of any modestly priced ones worth my time? I looked into Lambda tops, but even $70 for a top is a bit much to swallow when I don’t even know if I’ll have any interest in it a month from now.
