Are pre-orders for suckers or the patient faithful?

I got in on a pre-order that is now closed. The knife is a collaboration between an up and coming custom maker and a well established knife company. While there are images of the custom knife the production knife is meant to emulate, there are no mock up images of the proposed production piece. I am loosing it trying to be patient for the maker to put out a diagram of the proposed blade, heck it’s been over a month since it was announced. How long were you willing to wait to see what your pre-ordered knife would look like? Was it worth the wait?
