The best pen I have ever used (and continue to use) is a Zebra 301- available in any Staples, Office Depot, Office Max, etc. This is the original, fine point, ball point pen.
I was a pharmaceutical sales rep for years. My docs (who have hundred dollar pens in their shirt pockets) would sign something with this pen and ask if they could have it (reps generally give out pens).
One thing I really like about this product is that it is incredibly smooth, however, when the point is resting on the paper- it doesn’t make a mark like some ball point or gel pens will.
Give it a try and you will be converted-
