KeymasterHi EDCF!
I have been trying to schedule good testing of this and other sprays to help prove the effectiveness of pepper spray, as well as dispel some of the myths found here – The Pepper Spray/OC Myth-Busting Thread. Unfortunately, trying to coordinate everything between my brother’s schedule and mine, is proving to be difficult. So, I decided on a whim to do a quick test tonight with the help of my oldest daughter playing the victim and my wife behind the camera.
BLUR™ Defense Spray works. Period. Proper technique will allow you to get away from an assailant. This is for showing it used as self-defense for a civilian, because law enforcement needs are different. Is it the worst feeling pain ever? Not at all, but it is far from enjoyable. Can you keep your eyes open well enough to function after proper spray? No. You can try to blink and use some vision, but your eyes will keep slamming shut. The pain does increase as time goes on, fighting to keep your eyes open makes it much worse. Anyone who argues that they can keep their eyes open after a full spray in the eyes is a flat out liar. I can only imagine someone making such claims to be the same type of person to tell you they are on SEAL Team 6 and can’t talk about their service, as all of their records are classified. The Internet is full of Chairborne Ranger mall ninjas.
I didn’t try too hard to attack my daughter in this test, she was really nervous and didn’t want to get hurt. I’m too out of shape and sore from a long day out and about today, so I couldn’t do much anyhow. Luckily I don’t make my living mugging people, I’d go broke. Old ladies on scooters would be laughing at me while sprinting away at breakneck speeds in excess of 3 miles per hour. When we have time to do the more serious testing, I promise to give it much more effort.
All in all, not bad for a quick test to show the effectiveness. I may upload the videos when trying to decontaminate afterwards, but they are rife with cursing and won’t be posted to EDCF. I tried some Sudecon wipes from Fox Labs, I’m not at all impressed. A towel soaked in water was better. Since this was spur of the moment, I didn’t prepare by buying some whole milk to use for decontamination. We drink 1% milk, so I tried some of that on a rag and it worked wonders. Once I used that, I could open my eyes again and felt much better.
Anyhow, there will be more testing and myth-busting in the future. In addition to BLUR™ Defense Spray, I have some Cold Steel Inferno and Sabre Red that will be tested. The Cold Steel Inferno is a foam spray and also contains 2% black pepper. I have Sabre Red gel spray and another with UV marking dye. I may skip the one with the dye, I don’t want to explain that for several days after going to work. Maybe I’ll find someone else to volunteer for that one!
Once again I want to thank Holliday and BLUR™ Defense Spray for donating their product, as well as some competitor’s models, all of which can be seen in this post – Lou’s EDC Thread.
Still with me? Alright, here is the lame video
