Break-away neck ties.

I saw a reminder about safety and always using breakaway stuff around your neck in another thread. I didn’t want to derail it completely so I thought I would ask here. Does anyone know how hard It would be to convert standard ties to have a break away spot?
I’ve thought about cutting then at the point directly behind my neck and simply using velcro tape to attach it. This should allow me to tie and untie as normal, and be much safer. A good source for safer ties would be helpful too since even though I can’t afford to replace all my ties right now, I would rather not have to modify future purchases.
