KeymasterHey guys,
So I just realised I can get £50 off my insurance premium for having a dash cam. Plus the added peace of mind (and potentially cool videos) of having it in the case of accident has made me start googling..
But theres hundreds and they all look pretty similar! I recognise only a couple of brands, so I’m wondering if it’d be better to spend a little cash and get something like the Transcend DrivePro 200 (about £78) or just cheap and cheerful like an ‘Amkøv’ or similar from eBay (about £20)
Any advice chaps?
I don’t care about video quality or even functionality, I just want a continuous looper, and preferably something that can run off USB as well as 12v point

KeymasterI’ve been fiddling with a G1W for a while. Good video quality, decent reviews, cheap, no GPS to self incriminate yourself with speed data.
Lot’s of knockoffs, Spy Tec is a reputable vendor.
Cheers, Ted

KeymasterMobius Action Cam have a good reputation. They are pretty popular on one of the motoring forums I’m a member of

KeymasterWe’ve a kehan in the van we got from Amazon. Nice quality image but I’ve no clue how to get stuff from it unless it’s EVERYTHING.

KeymasterI don’t have any advice and I’m sure you will get loads of great advice from this foam’s membership, but if you want to do even more research, I know there are several threads on this topic over at BLF.

KeymasterI have the Flashmen 2.5″ dash cam. It’s dirt cheap but the quality isn’t bad at all, the mic is super sensitive too for recording any conversations with LEOs if you’re pulled over. It also came with some really nice mounting hardware. For the price, you really don’t have anything to lose.
Here’s a sample from mine. I had had a horribly slow DSL connection at the time so I converted it all the way to 320 pixels so it wouldn’t take all day to upload but it gives you an idea of the tone and sound quality.

KeymasterSearch for “techmoan” on YouTube… seems to be the most consistently thorough reviewer out there…
I actually have been using the Transcend for several months, works fine, good quality video, a little large though…

KeymasterThanks for the suggestions, guys.
You know I didn’t even think to check to see if there was a dedicated forum for dash cams. Of course there is!

KeymasterOjocam Pro seemed to work pretty well for me and can be hardwired easily. Having to plug/unplug a dash cam constantly is a bigger inconvenience than just not having a dash cam!

KeymasterI had a g1w for a while, but I would periodically pull the card and go through the video only to find portions of my trips just gone. I got fed up with it given the great reviews, and ended up getting a Spy-tec A118C from amazon. So far, so good. I put it on 720p/60fps but wasn’t impressed. It looks pretty good at 1080 though. I’ll try to post up a video this week of some dingus in a Camaro racing through traffic. The microphone is decent as well. The only thing I’m not 100% sold on is the capacitor. I’d prefer a battery myself. I can’t link it directly, but it should be searchable if you want to check it out.

KeymasterMobius Action Cam, MicroSD card, mount, and capacitor was about $110.
Here’s a quick video that I used doing it:
