As a resident of Calofornia, CCWs are notoriously hard to come by for the average citizen. Additionally, I live behind the Orange Curtain, and Sheriff Hutchens is not known for her willingness to issue CCWs. Therefore, I had a hypothesis: if I were to legally keep my unloaded firearm locked in my vehicle, is there any law or court ruling that prevents me from carrying any magazines concealed upon my person? I understand that if I have a firearm on my person I cannot have concealed ammunition (unless one has a CCW). The magazine has been ruled as an essential part of the firearm and thus cannot be concealed with the unconcealed firearm. But in this situation I wouldn’t have a firearm on my person. My logic is this: should I have an immediate need to use my firearm, and am able to access my car, I don’t want to have to either return to my car to reload or fumble around putting magazines in my pocket. I can just retrieve the gun and load it with a magazine and not need to be near my car. I basically grab and go without having to take the time to put extra magazines in my pockets. So, does anyone know if I’m allowed to do so? Or maybe point me towards useful information? Or maybe even a critique of my idea?
