Carhartt Jackets – Reason for nylon sleeves?

I was wondering if there was any practical reason for carhartt jackets to have the nylon taffeta sleeves and then fleece or other material for the rest of the jacket. I figured that outside of any cost reasoning, it was so that it would not be as bulky or so that it is easier to put layers underneath the jacket, anybody have any ideas? I don’t think it feels any cheaper or less capable, I was just curious if anybody has an answer for this.
