I was reading this Travel thread “What was (is?) the most USELESS travel accessory you ever carried?” and started thinking about battery packs for smartphones (mentioned in the thread)…
I’ve got a truck bag in which I keep a bunch of basic necessities. Since having to add a smartphone to my ewdc (every work-day carry), I added a 12vdc phone charger to the truck’s center console and a 120vac phone charger to the bag. That’s in addition to the 12vdc/120vac smart 4 x AA charger already in the bag to keep my flashlights and radios powered. These things take up a fair amount of space (it’s not a big bag).
Is there an external battery pack that can charge both AAs and a smartphone via USB that can itself be recharged from both 12vdc and 120vac?
Ideally, it would have a swing-out plug for ac (I don’t care about needing a 12v adapter, that can stay in the truck), it would charge 4 AAs at a time, it would charge the phone from either ac or the AAs via a USB cable, and it would not discharge the batteries when the unit was “off” (this appears to be a problem with some charger/battery pack units).
Anyone have such a thing and are happy with it?
