KeymasterI was at one of the parks around where I live today walking my dog and throwing a frisbee around. From a distance I noticed an older kid sitting on the ground with quite a few adults gathered around him kneeling down. I began walking over and by the time I got there I saw a bike lying on the ground next to him and saw a pretty bad skinned knee that went a good way down his shin. A lady (Maybe his mother, not sure) was next to him with that stupid little brown hydrogen peroxide bottle and paper towels. I could tell she had no idea what she was doing because she was taking the paper towels off his knee every few seconds or so to see if it had stopped bleeding. I of course, being the prepared kind hearted person I am, asked if he was ok and began pulling out my EDC FAK. He explained what happened and we began talking. I advised whoever it was that was holding the hydrogen peroxide not to use it and to simply wash it out with soap and water. They asked why and I explained it can do alot more harm than good to the skin and that gently scrubbing with soap and water will get more dirt and debris out. They interrupted me and said they had always used hydrogen peroxide and insisted it worked fine then asked me to move along so they could “help him without any more opinions” I apologized and said I was only trying to help and went on my way.
So how do you guys deal with people who are doing something wrong? In more serious situations someone who doesn’t know what they’re doing could be a problem. I’m sure the kid survived just fine with hydrogen peroxide and paper towels but if it was more serious I’m not sure how I would’ve persuaded the bystander that they were in fact doing something wrong. -
