I will be heading back to college, local community college, this fall after a break to refocus on what degree I wanted / get life a little more under control. I am looking to purchase a Surface Pro 3, or 4 if it is out by then. I will mainly be taking basics and prereqs to transfer to a 4 year, but have been trying to decide what I will need so I can purchase a little here and there before school starts.

    My plan is to carry:
    1. Surface pro 3 – for notes, handouts, etc. Hopefully keep everything on here so I can carry less.
    2. Textbooks – Last time I just switched books at my car between classes if I had to carry more than one textbook per class.
    3. Small Notebook – just in case I can’t use computer / computer battery dies.

My biggest question is if anyone has any experience with eTextbooks. I had kind of hoped for a digital textbook opened on half the screen, and one note open beside it. To read the book and take notes at the same time. I am just not sure if its possible on the surface to have etextbooks, or if eTextbooks are even worth the hassle. Some I have looked at require a constant internet connection to read, or you are locked into an app with little functionality and horrible text and images.
Any thoughts on what you like or don’t like about surface pro 3, or previous models, would be helpful also.
