KeymasterI know this is a bit off subject, but I’ll entertain your question. I like it fine, in fact, it might be the only technical jacket I own that I use through out snow storms and the like in arctic conditions. The description alone doesn’t do justice, it is applicable to winter/snow environment, but be careful, the name Mountain Jacket suits perfectly, as in, you’re climbing and hiking like a madman and it is meant to keep you warm while keeping you cool from sweat, therefore this is the only piece of wear besides a regular shirt or long sleeve shirt. This is were the name comes from, and I had my doubts as well, this is a hard shell, with great breathable utility, double zippered a great plus, is has lining inside, and like its predecessor, bomb-proof, and best of all: PACK-ABLE. Big pockets, they’re also lined, but they’re a tad big, again the survival thinking means that these pockets are not just meant to keep just your hands warm but enough space to actually stuff things that might be unconventional but needed during an emergency. To those who have been caught off guard, you surely been thanking your lucky stars as how much things you have ON YOU, rather than the latter.
Now, this jacket retains heat and is insulated enough if you’re active, it will keep you warm since you’re body is generating heat, and it will shield you greatly from the elements (Three hours on freezing rain, pouring freezing rain before it started to penetrate its layer). But if you’re a regular Joe, this might not be the best jacket to wear ALONE during snowstorm BELOW 34 F. This is a great to have from 30 – 55 (In Fahrenheit), a great jacket to have for say at least three seasons, summer, put something else. As you can see, this jacket is slim enough to keep a slim profile and will allow a sweater, Sherpa lined hoodie, or insulated vest, and still remain slim enough and retain its mobility to move about freely, and this is important, because you will FREEZE BEYOND BELOW 30. Yes, you’ll be very cold, very miserable if you’re not running or move about a fast pace, so if you’re gotta travel that doesn’t include a great deal of activity, wear a fill down vest, sweater, or something that can insulate you from the cold, as this will insulate from the weather, not freezing sub-temperature. Granted, it doesn’t have under arm zippered heat vents, but for its value, is great technical mountain jacket to own. (Second close would be Arcteryx, might be a good as replacement, but that time hasn’t come) But don’t take my word for it, Bear Grylls wears it during his Man vs Wild tenure season 5-7, beats the heck out them, and still look good, those who have watched the show, know all about it and how revered his brand of jacket really is, and I can test to that.
There have been FIVE VERSIONS of the jacket since its release. The first two were extremely hard to get, as the second actually had shoulder pocket for maps, and perhaps was the most burliest and toughest son of a gun in the market, North Face didn’t have squat on it. The third one, the most elusive one of them all, had two chest pockets that were very functional and this was prominent shown during his last two seasons. (Extremely Rare to own) The fourth I own, as they moved the shoulder pocket into the wrist and perhaps the last one truly endorsed by Craghoppers, as now they’re last reiteration has the BG logo on it, and no longer has the old school insignia that its previous versions one had.
I know a bit off subject, but again, SINCE NOT ONE SINGLE CREDIBLE REVIEW, I know there just got to be others rocking these jackets. But then again, Craghoppers is quite obscure in the US and more well known in European region, but they deliver great products…
I hope I been some help…don’t mod me bro!
