Holy crap I preordered this knife back in August after waiting for over a year since I first saw the picture RYP posted on his facebook and through all the kickstarter campaign to finally have practically given up that it would ever ship, checking back once every few weeks to dig through my email looking for a shipping confirmation. And then last night…I got on once more to see it had shipped sunday and would be here today. I could not have been more anxious for the day to be over to get home and check the mail.
After much set back from some of the partners DPX used to get this product built, it has arrived…and my reaction is that I couldn’t be happier. For those of you who are interested but don’t know, there was several set backs with the coating on the blade so it was delayed by several months. I kept telling myself you cant rush perfection.
First feel out of the box, the G10 side of the handle was gritty as coarse sand paper the way most HEST/Fs
are out of the box and it does need to be worn down but time in the pocket will do that.
The biggest difference with this knifes function over most HEST/Fs is the very swift and easy opening ball bearing pivot that makes it slick to open and easy to close. Another notable difference i felt out of the box was the lack of lock stick that I have experienced with my last 2 HEST/F blades. It has the lock head that keeps it from having this issue that normally doesn’t persist beyond a few days of playing with it anyways.
The one thing I hate about this knife is that they changed the pocket clip for this model. The normal thumb chowel pocket clip that DPX runs on the HEST/F models was replaced with a shorter, thicker pocket clip that for me doesn’t go in or out as smoothly as the other models of the name do.
All that said I will say, there aren’t many things in life that I feel like are worth the wait but in the last 2 years, the only 2 things worth it for me were Rogue One and this knife, the HEST/F Triple Black. I love it. like I said previously, I’ll be looking for someone to come out with an aftermarket pocket clip that is a bit more comfortable then this one but that aside, definitely a great little knife.

Compared to my trusty(somewhat rusty) HEST/F triple black which ive carried for about the last 2 years alternating with my strider.
