I was originally going to post this on another EMT thread but after it got too long I didn’t want to hijack their thread.
I’ve been considering taking EMT classes for awhile now just to learn the skills. I’m a software developer and would not plan on leaving my job but short of general “First Aid” classes I don’t have any formal training. I’ve been considering trying to improve my skills for awhile and last night on a bike ride I saw an 65 y/o women with no helmet take a major spill. She was groaning on the ground and complaining of head/neck problems. The first thing her 65 y/o husband wanted to do was get her to her feet. I wasn’t able to do much except advise them to not move her, call paramedics immediately, and post people before and after the accident to tell cyclists to slow down for the accident.
The question I’m asking is is EMT classes right for me? Or would you suggest something different? I only bring up the EMT classes because there’s a community college walking distance from where I live that offers them and I’m unaware of other training that’s out there. Thanks!
EDIT: Just noticed I posted this in a sub-category of “Gear – The Stuff We Carry” so if this is better posted somewhere else please let me know.
