Posted up this list at the TAD Junkies FB page recently and thought it would be worth sharing here – love to see what everyone else is using!

Hema 4WD Maps – Offline topographical maps inc 4WD tracks
St Johns Ambulance First Aid – Great first aid app
SAS Survival Guide – John ‘Lofty’ Wisman’s book as an interactive app
Star Walk – learn to read the stars
Sun Seeker – Augmented reality app that uses the video camera and overlays the path of the sun in realtime – great for setting up camp or finding the best vantage point to watch sunrise
Early Warning Network – Severe weather and incident early warning service
Goodreader – Allows me to copy a library of books in PDF format (over 3000) as a zip and preserve the file structure (unlike iBooks) and makes the entire library searchable – i.e. I can search every book in the collection simultaneously for a word or phrase – amazing offline resource!
OZ Weather – Access to realtime weather satellite feeds, great of predicting rainfall
WikiCamps Australia – User generated database of camp sites, caravan parks, day stops, backpacker hostels, rest areas, day stops, points of interest, information centres and public dump points
Spyglass – Many useful tools: a hi-tech viewfinder (HUD), milspec compass, gyrocompass, maps, tactical GPS, waypoint tracker, speedometer, altimeter, gyro horizon, sniper’s rangefinder, coordinate converter, sextant, inclinometer, angular calculator and zoom camera
ICE (In Case of Emergency) – For organizing your emergency medical and contact information
VLC Media Player – Useful for storing and viewing instructional videos whilst out bush
The Michael Morcombe and David Stewart eGuide to the Birds – A comprehensive field guide to Australian birds with a collection of bird calls
Leafsnap – An electronic field guide for tree and plant species with visual recognition software to help identify tree species from photographs of their leaves
Knot guide – Free knot app
Wordlens – Crazy app that translates what you point the camera at in realtime whilst preserving fonts and colours – must be seen to be believers! Google bought it a while back…
GoTenna App – When the device ships (I’ve pre purchased a pair) this app will allow you text and share your location with anyone who has the device even if you don’t have service
Tapatalk – For accessing the Candlepower and EDC forums!
    Camera – Or it didn’t happen…
    Flashlight – Redundancy!
